This Monday is my Thanksgiving, WHAT??

I do love the other Thanksgiving, the one in November. It’s always a four-day weekend, we get together with family, do a lot of guilt free eating, watch a lot of great football games, maybe even an extra round of golf or shopping on Black Friday. I don’t really know that I get the whole story behind it, something about Pilgrims and turkey, oh the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, … ok I’ll stop there.

Why is this Monday my Thanksgiving? As an “all in” follower of Jesus Christ, I am beyond thankful to be able to celebrate that our heavenly Father gave us the greatest gift ever given – His Son. As John 1:14 reminds us, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” And John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only
Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The days leading up to the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus are often called the “Season for Giving”. Yes, the retailers love us as we rush around to buy gifts for the ones we love, or as many have started doing, use that money to give generously to others in need of help over the holidays. Feels good to give, yes?

Jesus would like a gift on Monday as well, a big one, … from you and me. He just wants us, all of us to commit our lives to Him, to get into his word, the Bible, and to show others that Jesus’ followers are focused on grace, love and generosity for others. He gave us the greatest gift of all, his own life, a gift that keeps giving, so that we could have the ultimate gift, eternal life in Heaven with Him.

Father God, Thanks for giving us the gift of our Savior, Jesus Christ, over 2000 years ago. He washed away our sins, so that if we got into a personal relationship with Him, we could live in eternity with You. Who doesn’t want that?? Merry Thanksgiving/Christmas to all, a savior is born!
